Schools have the opportunity to book coaching sessions on individual days such as part of a health or fitness week, or as a block of coaching to suit half or full terms either at the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club or at the school. Equipment is provided, including rackets and balls, and can be brought to the school. A whole class can be coached in one session, although we would insist that there was a teacher present to maintain safe ratios (an additional teacher or assistant would be preferable for large classes).
2006 was the first year that a new recycling initiative was launched called A Right Racquet, sponsored by Decathlon. The initiative was developed in conjunction with Musical Works and the Sheffield Music Service. Tennis ball tubes were given to the schools that entered the competition, and pupils made them into musical instruments with the help of Matt, a scrap percussion instructor from Musical Works. Schools were then invited to the competition finals at the Bannerdale Centre, where their musical compositions were judged by a panel including Jahnell from ITV's CD:UK. Low Edges School were the eventual winner, and they received £200 worth of Mini Tennis equipment from Decathlon, and tennis lessons from Hallamshire Mini Tennis. Emmanuel School were the runners up, and received a coaching afternoon.
