Mini Tennis Programme

Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club is an LTA Mini Tennis Accredited Centre.

 The Hallamshire Mini Tennis Programme is where players usually start their tennis learning in a group situation, and is open to Members and Non-Members. Players aged under 8 must join the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club after 1 block of coaching at a cost of £32 per year, and Players aged 8 and over must also join the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club after 1 block of coaching. Under 8 membership includes a Mini Tennis Pack which includes a rucksack, 2 100% Cotton T-Shirts with logo, Water Bottle, Stickers, Bottle of Water and some Chocolate. Players also receive a Decathlon Mini Tennis membership card, that entitles them to 10% off tennis balls, tennis rackets and tennis accessories (not clothing or shoes) at the Sheffield Decathlon store.

A nominated parent of U8 tennis members can also play with their child / children without being a tennis member themselves, although courts can only be booked on the day - outdoor £2 and indoor at members rates (see booking sheets at reception).

Fun learning is paramount in the Mini Tennis sessions. Ball sense, movement and coordination, which play a big part in a child's development, are worked on extensively in our well-structured sessions.

Our Coaching Team attend regular training sessions, to ensure continued high quality tuition.

Players are put in the following levels according to age and standard:

Mini Tennis Red Age 4 to 7 - Ratio 1 Coach : 4 Players (ratios may vary slightly at certain times)

MTR is played over smaller nets across the width of a tennis court, with very low-pressure MTR balls. MTR is the ideal introduction to tennis, with lots of fun activities every week.

Mini Tennis Orange Age 6 to 9 - Ratio 1 Coach : 6 Players (ratios may vary slightly at certain times)

MTO is played over the full tennis net, with low-pressure MTO balls. MTO is restricted to either the service boxes, or ¾ of the length of the court to allow a steady progression.

Mini Tennis Green Age 8 to 11 - Ratio 1 Coach : 6 Players (ratios may vary slightly at certain times)

MTG is played over the full tennis net using mid-pressure MTG balls. MTG is either restricted to ¾ of the full length of the court, or uses the full court.

Mini Player / Performer Squads Age 5 to 11 - Ratio 1 Coach : 4 Players (ratios may vary slightly at certain times)

These sessions are invitational only, and are provided to fast-track talented players, with a view to entering our Performance Programme, and eventually representing the County LTA. Talent ID is undertaken on a regular basis, both within our Mini Tennis Programme and local Schools.

Progression is at the discretion of the Coaching Team.

Assessment Forms are distributed at the end of each block.

Mini Tennis Parties

Mini Tennis Parties are available for up to 24 children from age 5 to 11.
